Halliday, Problem 15.3

Find the pressure increase in the fluid in a syringe when a nurse applies a force of 42 N to the syringe's circular piston, r = 1.1 cm

Work:

pressure p = force F/area A
p = 42 N/pi*(0.011 m)^2, where N = Newtons and m = meters

Solution:

p = 1.1 x 10^5 Pa, where Pa = Pascals
